In 2026, according to the Henley Passport Index, the world's most powerful passport is Singapore, whose holders can travel visa-free to 192 of the 227 destinations tracked by the index.
Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates share second place, with visa-free access to 187 destinations. Sweden sits alone in third place (186 destinations).
France ranks fourth, tied with eleven other European countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Switzerland. Each offers visa-free access to 185 destinations.
The United States passport now ranks tenth, tied with Iceland, with visa-free access to 179 destinations.
The Henley index also highlights a vast mobility gap: at the bottom of the ranking, the Afghan passport grants visa-free access to just 24 destinations, 168 fewer than Singapore's.
